About Anshai Torah Religious School

Jewish tradition teaches us that the world stands on three things: The study of Torah, Prayer and Gemilut Hasadim (acts of loving kindness).

At Congregation Anshai Torah we endeavor to incorporate these values into our Religious School program. Our educational goal is to nurture and help develop each student's knowledge, understanding and experiences to foster a strong, positive Jewish identity.  During the years in Religious School, our students are provided the knowledge and skills they need to live a Jewish life, as well as the motivation and commitment to do so. Our faculty provides an educational program in a creative, stimulating, and enjoyable environment.

The Religious School curriculum is a spiraling curriculum with four basic components:

  • Hebrew Language and Prayer
  • Basic Judaism
  • Tanach
  • Jewish History and Israel

The primary goal is that the student learns to read Hebrew and feel comfortable using the Siddur and secondly to instill a comprehension of the concept of prayer and what saying specific prayers mean. Parallel to the goals of Hebrew language and Prayer is the component which brings our school to life and enhances the Jewish experience for our students and their families: feeling the joy of Shabbat and the Holidays; pride in Israel; studying the Bible and discovering in it our identity, the beliefs and values which make us a people. To live what is learned in class, our students and their families are encouraged to participate in Shabbat and Holiday services and home celebrations.

As Jews, we are especially dedicated to helping our children understand their responsibilities to the community. Our school promotes an understanding of mitzvot as being a Jewish obligation, asking that our students participate in a routine of giving to and engaging in ongoing projects. Judaism means the most when it is translated into action.

Our Programs

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
Classes provide a foundation for religious studies. The students are introduced to basic Jewish concepts, ethics mitzvot, holidays, prayer and Hebrew reading readiness. Arts & crafts, and music enhance the learning experience.

3rd through 6th Grade
The curriculum emphasizes Hebrew language, Siddur, Bible, as well as holidays, mitzvot and prayer. Active participation by students and their families is strongly encouraged.

Junior Congregation/Family Service
An important aspect of a child's Jewish education at Congregation Anshai Torah is their participation in our monthly Shabbat Junior Congregation / Family Service.  Parents are encouraged to enjoy and join with their children at Jr. Congregation services. Two services are offered each month; one for K - 2 students and one for students in grades 3 - 6.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Individual instruction for each student is provided by our staff of highly qualified tutors. A prerequisite for Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Anshai Torah is a minimum of four years in our Religious School or enrollment at Levine Academy.  All B'nai Mitzvah candidates must be enrolled and attend classes during the year of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony,
